This church has a chapel with a ceiling dated from about 1490. Leaking roofs had led to a decay and breakdown of the timber structure of the ceiling as well as affecting the original 15th century paintwork.
The roof above the ceiling was completely taken off and a method of suspending the sound parts of the ceiling was devised so that the ceiling could remain undisturbed.
Consolidation of the timber work and the paintwork was undertaken to slow down or arrest further deterioration. Finally a new roof was constructed above the ceiling. |
